about

This song is dedicated to anyone who is doing their best to make their way back home. It was partially inspired by my grandfather, who served time in the Navy in the Korean war away from my grandmother.

lyrics

I’ve been at sea for a while
In the Navy
O I did not start this war
But it is you that I am fighting for

And I wrote you every night
I threw the bottles
Hoping the see would bring them home
Let you know you are not alone

And the sea
It wanted more
I took my boat and I point it towards
The only light I could see in the night

And the bow it began to break
A heavy storm
O my cradle it was no more
Well it is you that I am swimming for

And I led with heavy hands
I tread the water
Every stroke brings me to you
Well it was you that was pulling me through

And the sea
It wanted more
I took my stroke and I started towards
The only light I could see in the night

And my hands they found the land
I knew who I was
I am a man who ‘rose from the sand
It’s been years since I found land

And it’s been years since I’ve seen your face
But I knew it
When I saw it from the shore
Your silhouette it was in the door

And the sea
It wanted more
I took my stride and I started towards
The only light
It was you in the night
